I journaled this a few years ago on an emotionally trying day and decided to include it in my upcoming book To Mom Is to Love: Pioneering a New Kind of Motherhood as I now think of it every year:
"At the beginning of spring, I took a long walk. I was reminded of rebirth. As the seasons consistently rotate, our lives do as well. Change is constant. A beautiful fall may lead to a long and bleak winter. Mounds of snow and ice cover the ground. When all seems lost, it slowly warms. One day, you notice life again. And bluebells pop up from the snow."
It is a powerful realization to know spring will come again and that change is constant. Earlier today I pulled last season's weeds from my bright green plants coming up from the ground. It is incredible to observe life emerge again. Fun fact, green is special to the human eye. It can see more shades of green than any other color. You can notice this when you look at a tree juxtaposed against a blue sky. Nature is amazing!
I keep all of this in mind a I step once again into this season. What do you plan to do today to get outside and soak in spring? There are a variety of mental as well as physical benefits from being outside, gardening, and working with one's hands. Let me know in the comments what you enjoy most about this season!

When spring comes, the little buds are a wonder...agreed!
Valerie, I am catching up on reading my favorite authors. Today we spotted the first swallowtail butterfly of the season in our garden. I couldn't help but blurt out "hello" and start waving. I'm not sure the butterfly appreciates my communication efforts, but that was my excitement. I agree that Springtime can be almost intoxicating!
